Biography

In 1991 Andrea Brunner graduated with an M. A. in English language and literature and Slavonic studies at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. She wrote her thesis about translated poetry: Tjutčev auf deutsch: Zur Theorie und Praxis der Lyrikübersetzung. In October 1991 Andrea Brunner took up her studies of Sprechwissenschaft und Sprecherziehung [science in speech and communication] and finished her degree at the University of Regensburg in 1995. Andrea Brunner’s thesis is on Kontrastive Phonetik und Phonologie - Deutsch-Russisch.

From 1995 to 2001 Andrea Brunner worked as a lecturer giving applied linguistics, phonetics at undergraduate levels at several schools of speech and language therapy where she also trained students in voice and speech projection. Andrea Brunner gave courses in public speaking for members of trade unions. Further she worked as an assistant director for the theatre Städtische Bühne Heidelberg and the Schlossfestspiele Heidelberg.

Since 2001 Andrea Brunner runs seminars and gives courses on Sprecherziehung at the German Department of the Pädagogische Hochschule in Heidelberg, Germany. She is also a lecturer for courses of phonetics at the Internationaler Ferienkurs of the University of Heidelberg. Her research covers areas such as German as a Second Language for immigrants, phonetics, and elocution – individual treatment in received pronounciation included. Andrea Brunner has reviewed and published on applied science in speech and communication in journals and in books.
