In the SPEED research project, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) was used as a movement-based support method for pupils with behavioural problems in mainstream schools and at the SBBZs for learning and emotional-social development. HIIT is an endurance training programme in which a high-intensity exercise phase is followed several times by a recovery phase. The workloads are designed using child-appropriate sports exercises chosen by the child.
The trend in the results is promising and a handout is to be developed that will be evaluated in the coming school year 2025/26.
