Background

Approximately 4,600 students are studying at the Heidelberg University of Education, 743 of them in the bachelor's degree programme "Primary Education (primary school teaching profession)".

The university considers the intercultural profiling of future teachers to be indispensable and has laid this down in strategy documents. In a survey conducted in 2018, the university confirms that only few students gain study-related experience abroad.

For this reason, the university intends to establish within the framework of the project "ProMobiLGS: Programme for the [Promotion of] International Mobility in Primary School Teaching" in the years 2019 - 2022 a window of mobility as structural basis in the above-mentioned course of studies, thereby increasing the number of stays abroad and intercultural encounters and deepening international university relations in a subject-related manner. The aim is to develop a higher education culture in which internationality and mobility are part of the quality criteria of study, teaching and research.
