Food and Drink at PH Heidelberg

Whether for a short coffee break, a hearty lunch or a small snack in between - students and staff at Heidelberg University of Education have several options for fresh and delicious food and drink. On nice days, the outdoor areas invite you to enjoy a coffee in the sun and take a deep breath - right in the centre of the campus.

The smallest canteen in Heidelberg with a great atmosphere - the Alte PH canteen serves fresh, seasonal food at lunchtime so that students can enjoy a delicious lunch indoors or outdoors at their university. Here you can choose between the meal of the day, the buffet or the salad bar.

With hot or cold drinks, sandwiches, snacks and a daily menu at lunchtime, the Café BlauPause in the new building invites you to take a well-earned break - in summer also in the beer garden.

Did you know that our canteen has been recognised by PETA Deutschland e.V. for its vegan and vegetarian options? It is now one of the most vegan and vegetarian-friendly canteens in Germany! This award not only celebrates our delicious vegan/vegetarian dishes, but also our commitment to a sustainable and healthy diet. The team regularly takes part in vegan training courses and organises campaign days - for a conscious diet and more animal welfare.

The German Nutrition Society recommends drinking at least 1.5 litres a day. Our free drinking water dispensers will help you achieve this. The devices are designed to use bottles or drinking cups up to 0.5 litres. The drinking water is treated by an internal filter system and is available chilled or unchilled. You can find them here:

  • Kepler's canteen (old building)
  • Café Blaupause (new canteen)
  • Keplerstrasse library
  • Old building, 2nd floor

Did you know that drinking too little can be linked to back pain? This is because a lack of water causes the intervertebral discs, which actually act as shock absorbers for the vertebrae, to shrink. The squeezed discs can then press on the neighbouring nerves and this causes pain.
