STEM classrooms are sites for some of the most critical conversations of our times, from facing climate change, to the rise of scientific mis-information, and how artificial intelligence is transforming our educational and professional landscapes. Now more than ever, teachers in STEM fields need tools to prioritise critical thinking and student participation.

In this talk, (Teachers College, Columbia University) discusses how conversation analytic research can offer concrete and practical ways for teachers to focus on what she calls teaching for thinking. Using the FAB framework (Fostering an Inviting Environment; Attending to Student Voices; and Balancing Competing Demands: Waring & Creider, 2021), Creider will lead future teachers on a journey of micro-reflection as they learn to use their own moment-to-moment choices to transform the learning environment in their own classrooms.

The is a series of virtual or hybrid lectures and workshops focusing on future skills in teacher training.
Starting in the winter semester 2025/26, two to three digital events featuring international guest lecturers will be held each semester. The series aims to promote forward-thinking and globally connected teacher training, and to highlight current topics, challenges, and innovations in the field of education. Please see the for all events.

The programme is a joint initiative of ‘Lehramt.International’ projects in Darmstadt, Freiburg, Gießen, Heidelberg, Jena, Ludwigsburg, Marburg, Passau, Potsdam, Siegen, Wuppertal and Würzburg. Dr. Sarah Creider's workshop has been made possible by the HSE project .

All teacher education students interested in the topic of learning environments are warmly invited to participate – particularly those teaching STEM subjects. There is no prior registration required.
