Going abroad

Living in a target-language context is not only an unforgettable experience and a milestone for your personal development. It is also of vital aspect of your professionalisation as a language teacher. Being a qualified language teacher entails being an intercultural speaker who imparts languaculture. This means that you do not only teach the target language, but also target cultures. Having experienced the target cultures first hand is indispensable for teachers. The English department expects you to complete a stay abroad of minimum six months (MHB). You can choose between studying abroad at the University or teaching abroad at the school in one of the target cultures. Of course other options (working abroad, au pair, etc.) are an option as well.
