Emotions are gaining increasing attention in environmental and sustainability education (ESE) as a dynamic field of research shaped by various disciplines. In this keynote, Mandy Singer-Brodowski presents key theoretical perspectives and empirical findings on the role and significance of emotions in sustainability-related learning processes across different age groups. In addition, she explores practical approaches and pedagogical strategies for addressing emotions in teaching – providing relevant insights for those involved in education, research, and curriculum development in the field of ESE.

The public keynote is part of the taking place in Heidelberg from October 6 to 9, 2025, a cooperation of  Heidelberg School of Education and Copenhagen University.
