Digital Lecture Series "Exploring Relationships Between Media and Us – through Cognitive, metacognitive, and Psychological Lens"

A digital lecture by Prof. Dr. Yoo Kyung Chang (Columbia University). Advance registration is required.

The lecture aims to engage the attendees in thinking about their relationship with media within their multiple identities – as a member of the community, as a citizen, as an individual, as an educator. The relationship will be explored by examining one’s cognitive, metacognitive, and affective engagement with the media on an individual and social level, with design as a mediator. Living and teaching in the current, complex media ecosystem that is often characterised by participatory culture and information age, we are often faced with the extreme optimism of accessibility and equity or the negative implications of technological determinism. However, there is room for a more informed and flexible approach to understand the implications of media, affordances, and design on our daily lives and educational practice. The lecture will question our perception of ‘being informed’ and agency through discussions around human cognition, metacognition, and support educators in developing informed approaches to integrating media into their teaching practice.

The online-event is part of the joint interdisciplinary initiative by the Heidelberg School of Education and Teachers College (Columbia University). The lecture will take place on Tuesday, June 22th at 6 p.m. The lecture will be held in English. For access details please send an E-Mail to Dr. Lina Pranaitytė.
