The role that media and in particular pornography plays in informing and forming (young) people’s attitudes and practices continues to exceed the combined educational input of parents, schools, teachers or media pedagogues taken together. Yet while the media’s role in sexual education is acknowledged, there is practically no conversation about what exactly is on this “teacher’s” curriculum. This workshop will focus on the relevance of media in sexual education and will look into what critical thinking competencies we need in this context of (un)mediated pedagogies.
The workshop will take place in line of an already existing cooperation between Heidelberg School of Education and Teachers College, Columbia University, New York. The practical side of this workshop is pivotal: the programme is centred around the creation of a sustainable learning and teaching unit for the Online Module ‘Critical Media Literacy’. Confirmed speakers are Madita Öming, Nancy Lesko, Deivida Vandzinskaite, Stephanie McCall, Alyssa Niccolini and many others.
The workshop will take place on Thursday, November 30th and Friday, December 1th. We warmly invite students as well as young researchers, teachers, teacher educators and anyone interested in the topic to participate. No prior registration required.
