KIRK – Performance Art

Was Studis dazu sagen:

Veranstaltung: Since the work of Stanislavski, theatre makers have always tried to make the
construct of the theatre look authentic. While the actors are creating the illusion of being somebody
else, we – the audience – are very much aware that they are in fact pretending. The makers of
performance art such as Joseph Beuys and Marina Abramovic and groups such as She She Pop and
Rimini Protocol – to name just a few famous examples – are dissatisfied with this concept of theatre.
They want to return to true authenticity on the stage: the actors should not pretend to be somebody
else – they should be themselves, doing what they are doing without pretending that it is anything
other than what it is.
This workshop practically explores this approach through a series of creative games and exercises.
We will explore what it means to be on stage, who we speak for when we perform and how the self
becomes a persona, and, finally, how the individual can interact with others to make an artistic
impact on society. We will make moments of performance, moments of encounter and moments of
learning through play. We will ask ourselves what is the “real” self, what is a work and why we play.
We will also laugh.
