Nowadays, educational and socialisation processes often involve the use of digital media. In the Media Education Department, we address fundamental questions concerning the use, development and research of digital media in educational contexts and for teaching and learning. The Media Education Department is represented by the Chair of Media Education and the Chair of Media Didactics. The academic and project staff engage with various topics and dimensions of media in educational processes through research, teaching and knowledge transfer.
The staff of the department are responsible for the Master’s programme in E-learning and Media Education (ELMEB), the compulsory module on media education within teacher training programmes, as well as courses offered within the Interdisciplinary Study Area (ÜSB) for teacher training and the Master’s programme in Digital Education for Sustainable Development. In addition to these teaching responsibilities, staff members of the department are involved in various formats of continuing professional development for education experts. Furthermore, they collaborate with colleagues both within and outside the university, at local, national and international levels.
Current externally funded projects and PhD research projects round off the department’s research profile. Within the university, staff members are actively involved in the university’s media development and undertake tasks at the university’s media centre.
