Do you want to give pupils the best possible start to their future? As a primary school teacher, you teach the basics for their school career in the various subjects. In addition, you promote the children's creativity and social skills.
You will learn how to do this in our Bachelor's degree programme in Primary Education and the Master's degree programme in Primary School Teaching. In addition to maths and German, you will take another subject and study it with a view to both its didactics and its subject-specific sciences. You will also attend seminars in educational science, psychology and sociology and gain valuable practical experience in two internships.
The primary school teaching profession offers secure prospects for the future. With the Bachelor of Education in Primary Education, you will lay the foundation for the Master of Education, which will open the door to a career as a teacher - with clear career paths and civil servant status.
Thanks to the close integration of theory and practice, you will gain a wide range of insights into everyday primary school life on the Bachelor's degree programme in Primary Education. Accompanied internships allow you to experience lessons, gain your own experience and concretise your career aspirations.
The B.A. Education in Primary Education degree programme (related to primary school teaching) focuses on the education, upbringing and support of five to twelve-year-old children.
You will learn to develop and implement integrative and inclusive educational programmes for this age group - you will also acquire skills in the areas of interculturality, diagnostics and resource support. The Bachelor's degree programme in Primary Education also teaches you how to shape two important transitions in children's educational pathways: the transition from early childhood education and upbringing (e.g. in kindergarten) and the transition to secondary school.
The degree programme therefore optimally prepares you for a career in education as well as a teaching-related Master's degree programme, which in turn qualifies you to work as a primary school teacher.
In addition to maths and German, you will take another subject and study it with a view to both its didactics and its specialist sciences.
You will acquire important skills in the areas of inclusion, media education, language and communication in an overarching area of study.
You will also attend seminars in educational science, psychology and sociology and gain valuable practical experience in three internships.
Standard period of study: 6 semesters
The programme comprises 180 credit points. One credit point corresponds to around 30 hours of student work (attendance, preparation and follow-up work, self-study, examination).
In the B.A. Education in Primary Education, you will study the following compulsory study areas as part of the teacher training programme:
- Educational sciences
- Practical school studies (internships)
- Comprehensive field of study
You choose German or maths as your first subject. At the same time, you will take a basic maths or German course. You will also choose another subject. Find out about the respective requirements on the subject pages!
Please note - special feature: Here you decide between two subject lessons and directly select a subject specialisation. You can choose from:
- Science and technology subject lessons (specialising in: Everyday culture and health, biology, chemistry, physics or technology)
- Social science subject lessons (specialising in geography, history or political science)
To enable you to apply the theoretical principles from your degree programme directly in practice, you will complete two internships in the Bachelor's degree in Primary Education.
You will complete the three-week orientation placement (OSP) by the beginning of the third semester. Here you will familiarise yourself with the professional field of a teacher and the work at a school, observe lessons and have the opportunity to teach for the first time. This helps you to review and strengthen your choice of study and career.
You usually complete the integrated semester placement (ISP) over 17 weeks in the 5th semester. A large part of this is planning, instructing, conducting and reflecting on your own teaching units. Here you will prove that you have all the didactic, methodological and educational skills that you will need in your future career.
During the internships, you will be supported by training counsellors, teachers at the school and university lecturers, advised on teaching experiments and keep internship portfolios.
In this way, you will develop professional skills that you can build on during your preparatory service and continue to develop throughout your career.
Our Centre for Practical School Studies (ZfS) is your first point of contact for all questions relating to the practical school components of your studies.
