We see teaching as an open space for diversity and exchange. International guest academics enrich our courses, international students contribute their perspectives and our lecturers expand their expertise through cooperation with our numerous partner universities. In this way, we promote teaching that thrives on global impulses and prepares students for a networked world.
Professor Dr Karin Vogt and lecturer Veronika Fröhlich, M.A. (English) have been recognised for their involvement in the EU project "Teachers' Assessment Literacy Enhancement (TALE)". Together with international colleagues, they developed digital learning modules for foreign language teachers, which are available free of charge on the internet and used in training and further education worldwide. The project received an award from the British Council in 2019 and was again recognised by the English Language Testing Society in 2025.
Students at universities of teacher education should be optimally prepared for the challenges of the teaching profession as part of their school internships. In the "ExPiTe³" project, practising teachers from Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands are looking at how universities and schools can work together in the best possible way. The project also offers our teachers a further training programme and makes expertise from other countries accessible.
In the summer semester 2025, we welcomed Professor Dr William J. McConnell as our eighth International Teaching Fellow in Heidelberg. The multi-award-winning academic from Virginia Wesleyan University (VWU), USA, gave a seminar in English on the dimensions of education for sustainable development. He also gave a lecture in English on the history of history education in the United States. In collaboration with the Department of Geography and Geocommunication, he also developed new ideas to promote international student exchange.
