The Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for students of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung is awarded annually at the Heidelberg University of Education and the cooperating universities abroad. The scholarship is an award for particularly qualified students; special emphasis is placed on social and intercultural competence. The foundation supports study visits for international students at the Heidelberg University of Education and students from Baden-Württemberg at a university abroad.

Scholarship duration:
Summer semester: 4 months
Winter semester: 5 months


Scholarship amount: 992,- Euro per month

Application deadline: 28 February 2026

  • good to very good academic performance
  • intercultural, social or other commitment beyond your studies
  • good knowledge of German (B1)
    → Students from the USA excluded

Counselling at the home university on the study plan and application procedure is required.

Applications for a Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM are made via the online portal BWS World. An individual profile must be created.

  • Complete personal details
  • Letter of motivation
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Photo
  • Proof of study progress and academic success (transcript of records)
  • Proof of required foreign language skills
  • Certificate of enrolment from the home university
  • Proof of social, intercultural or other commitment from the start of the degree programme

Each file name must be labelled with the applicant's name (e.g. CV_Mustermann.doc).

Only complete applications will be accepted.
There is no legal entitlement to a scholarship.

The success of the application is decided by an independent committee appointed by the Senate of the University of Education, which forwards the application to the Baden-Württemberg-Stiftung in the form of a selection proposal.

Students have certain obligations during a study visit. These relate to both organisational procedures and academic requirements.

  • Finalise the Learning Agreement
    → Agree the courses with the home university and the partner university
  • Comply with the Learning Agreement
    → Complete courses as planned
    → Document any necessary changes
  • Participate in events organised by the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung as part of the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM
  • Communicate with partner and home university
    → The universities must be informed immediately in writing if the studies have to be interrupted or cancelled
  • Do not receive any other scholarship during the funding period
  • Prepareexperience report
  • Transcript of Records (ToR)
    → Overview of the grades achieved
    → Issued by the International Office of the Heidelberg University of Education
    → Required for the recognition of academic achievements at the home university
