Languages bring people together – they open doors to other cultures and broaden our view of the world. At the Institute of Foreign Languages, we train future teachers in English, French and German as a foreign language. Our focus is on language education, subject-specific teaching skills and intercultural learning. By closely integrating theory and practice, we provide the foundations for modern, multilingual teaching. Please visit our website to find out more about our degree programmes, projects and research. We look forward to hearing from you!
In teacher training, English places an emphasis on contemporary foreign language teaching that takes account of diversity and multilingualism within the context of a digital culture. To this end, theories, methods and models from subject-specific didactics and the relevant academic disciplines (literary studies, linguistics, cultural studies), as well as other related disciplines and teaching practice, are integrated and taught using innovative methods such as task-based learning or inquiry-based learning.
French focuses on intensive language practice, insights into Francophone culture and literature, the promotion of intercultural competence, and modern foreign language didactics with innovative teaching and learning concepts.
German as a Foreign Language (DaF) provides comprehensive knowledge of the methodology and didactics of language teaching, places particular emphasis on promoting multilingualism, and prepares students for intercultural learning and teaching in diverse contexts.
