Student Council Arts

It's great that you've decided to study art. The perfect place to realise ideas and projects. Whether it's printmaking, graphics, nude drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, performance or photography, you can try out and deepen your skills here. At the same time, you will gain insights into art history and specialised didactics.

During long art nights and excursions, you can work intensively as an artist, present your works at exhibitions or simply share your interest in art with other students. As we are one of the smaller subjects, we have a personal atmosphere. You can discuss your work with your teachers at any time in artistic colloquia. Your teachers, as well as the student council, are there to help you with any questions or needs you may have. We, the student council, also welcome your suggestions and every new member.

The art department is celebrating & invites you to the SUMMER FESTIVAL with AN EXHIBITION on 24 June 2026!

To make the whole thing shine artistically, we need YOU and YOUR WORKS!

The vernissage is by and for students: all art students with works that fit the exhibition theme MAUSIG - ATZIG - *OTZIG can apply to us by email by 15 June 2026.

MAUSIG - ATZIG - *OTZIG is a triangular category system that is used as a meme in internet culture. It allows virtually everything and everyone to be positioned within the triangle of three categories.

  • mousy = sweet, cosy, cute, lowkye, cozy, inconspicuous, shy, relaxed, quiet
  • atzig = cool, assy, full of energy, hyper, wild, a bit riotous, likeable
  • *otzy = cheeky, extravagant, provocative, self-confident, bossy, brash

Your art shines with calm or cheerful colours, deals with patterns and structures, cute or nostalgic themes? Pretty mousy!

Your works don't play by the rules, seem deliberately messy, focus on wild themes, seem full of energy? Pretty nasty!

Your works are lowkey bold and work with provocation and exaggeration, thematising their content loudly and without a guilty conscience? Pretty *otty!

Or maybe you see yourself and your work somewhere in the middle between two categories? That's why every artist can position their work on the MAUSIG - ATZIG - *OTZIG triangle themselves and give this information to visitors to the exhibition with an info card. There are no limits to your imagination: whether drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, collage, installation, performance, etc., we look forward to receiving submissions of all kinds!

P.S.: Please send us your works (you can also submit several) in a PDF document with the following details: name, title of the work, size of the work and any other info.

→ Please name the document as follows: Lastname_Firstname.pdf

P.P.S. The second long art night will take place on 10 June. We cordially invite you all to attend! Here you can work explicitly on the exhibition theme and we are available for questions and advice.

For the first time, the art student council (consisting of several art students) is offering a free portfolio consultation for all prospective art students.
Bring along your work in progress or finished work and receive valuable feedback from the students. In a joint discussion, we can work out which works could be selected for the portfolio or how individual works can be worked on further.

Date: Saturday, 16.05.2026
Time: Start: 10 am, end 2 pm
Venue: In the art foyer (ground floor of the new building of the Heidelberg University of Education, new building, Im Neuenheimer Feld 561, Heidelberg)
Registration: phhd.kunstfachschaft@gmail.com (If you are interested in the portfolio consultation, please write a message to the student council so that we know how many interested students we can expect. We look forward to your registration!)
