Institute for German Language and Literature

The Institute for German Language and Literature comprises the subjects of German (teacher training), speech training and theatre pedagogy and deals in research and teaching with German didactic principles and concepts that are relevant for the successful design of teaching and learning processes in the subject of German. We offer our students an academically sound and practice-orientated education that encompasses both theoretical knowledge and practical teaching skills.

Our interdisciplinary faculty contributes to the professionalisation of prospective German teachers through research and teaching, focusing on the following areas:

We dedicate our research and teaching to the study of the German language in its various facets. We represent language didactics as an empirical science and work on issues relating to linguistic learning objects, their acquisition and teaching. From this we derive concepts for teaching and learning processes.

Our work and research focuses on reading socialisation, children's and youth literature as well as reading and teaching research. In our programme of events, we explore current issues of learning with and through literature in all types of schools.

Our focus is on the development and improvement of linguistic and speaking skills. Our aim is to train the voice as an important means of communication and to help prospective teachers to reflect on and optimise their individual speech and expression.

in an informal setting with a high proportion of practical work, student teachers are trained for theatrical work with children and young people in different educational contexts. The focus is on the importance of artistic-creative processes in education and development as well as the examination of one's own (teaching) personality.
