Lecturers

The promotion of international mobility and networking plays a central role in the further development of teaching and research. Various programmes offer lecturers the opportunity to spend time abroad, strengthen international cooperation and gain new impetus for their own teaching. The International Office supports lecturers by providing advice, organisational support and suitable funding programmes.

Staff Mobility for Teaching Assignment (STA)

The Erasmus+ programme provides funding for guest lectureships at European partner universities and offers the opportunity to gain international teaching experience, get to know other teaching cultures and network internationally.

Teaching staff should use their stay to strengthen the European dimension of the host university, complement its teaching programme and impart their specialist knowledge to students who do not wish to or cannot study abroad.

Where possible, the development of joint study programmes between the partner universities should play a role, as should the exchange of teaching content and methods. Staff from foreign companies and organisations can also be invited to German universities for teaching purposes.

The financial support is based on the different costs of living in the target countries. Standardised daily rates apply for funding from German universities.

Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden,

In addition to these daily rates, there are travel costs depending on the actual distances between the place of departure and destination of the mobility, which are calculated using a standardised Europe-wide calculation tool.

If required, individual support to cover subsistence costs for the travel period before and after the activity is eligible, with a maximum of two travel days for participants and accompanying persons receiving the non-environmentally friendly travel grant and a maximum of six travel days for those receiving the environmentally friendly travel grant.

Teachers at Heidelberg University of Education who have a contractual employment relationship with the university can apply for Erasmus+ teaching placements.

Funding for teaching stays at an Erasmus+ partner university is possible from two days and with a teaching workload of at least eight hours per stay or per week or part thereof.

Applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis, but it is necessary to contact the International Office before submitting an application.

Approval is based on the following criteria:

  • Business trip application

  • Available funding

Preference is given to first-time applications and projects with particular added value for the internationalisation of the university.

Funding will only be granted if all of the following documents are submitted in full and on time during the programme.

Staff Mobility for Training (STT)

Erasmus+ enables further education and training measures for university staff at partner universities to expand internationalisation.

The funding programme is aimed at university staff in all areas.

Among other things, funding is provided for

  • Participation in language courses
  • Participation in Staff Training Weeks or International Weeks
  • further academic training
  • Participation in job shadowing programmes

No funding for meetings and conferences for teaching staff.

Fixed daily rates and travel allowances apply to Erasmus+ funding, which are listed below.

The mobility of doctoral students can also be funded as student mobility both for study purposes (SMS) and for internships (SMP). The prerequisite for this is enrolment at Heidelberg University of Education or alternative proof of university affiliation.

Employees who have a contractual employment relationship with Heidelberg University of Education are eligible to apply.

Applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis, but it is necessary to contact the International Office before submitting an application.

Approval is based on the following criteria:

  • Approval of the supervisor

  • Business trip application

  • Available funding

Preference is given to initial applications and, in the case of teaching staff, to projects with particular added value for the internationalisation of the university.

The stay abroad has a minimum duration of two days.

Funding will only be granted if all of the following documents are submitted in full and on time during the programme.

Heidelberg University of Education has limited funds available to support international cooperation within the framework of existing partnership agreements.

The aim of this funding is to strengthen the international visibility of the university, expand specialist networks and maintain sustainable collaborations.

Full-time lecturers at the Heidelberg University of Education

The funds are earmarked for trips to partner universities, measures abroad and for inviting international colleagues on working visits to Heidelberg University of Education.

Individual participation in academic conferences with their own contribution is not eligible for funding from funds for the cultivation of international relations within the framework of partnership agreements.

Corresponding applications must be submitted via the Dean's Office of the relevant faculty. Members of the Graduate School can get in touch with the contact person there.

Full-time lecturers at Heidelberg University of Education are eligible to apply.

Applications must be submitted informally by email to the International Office by 31 March of each calendar year. Applications submitted at a later date may be considered if funds are still available.

The application should include

  • a statement of costs
  • a substantive justification of the project
  • as well as information on the expected results in the context of the university's internationalisation strategy.

Approval is granted taking into account the available funds and possible funding alternatives.

For international projects, it is recommended that further funding programmes - e.g. from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) - are examined and used if necessary.

As one measure of its internationalisation agenda Heidelberg University of Education offers the International Visiting Professors Programme.

International visiting professors spend up to six weeks at Heidelberg University of Education between October and February (winter term) and between April and July (summer term).

During this period, they give two public lectures and teach one course (28 lesson hours at 45 minutes) open to our undergraduate and MA students. Courses should be taught in English or German. Courses taught in English are very welcome.

The University covers travel expenses to and from Heidelberg up to 1.600,- Euro (economy class airfare) as well as accommodation in Heidelberg (Midori The Green Guest House) a Campus Card (for use of cafeteria and library systems) and a Honorar equivalent to the payment of a course

Eligible are full, associate and assistant professors from universities abroad. As Heidelberg University of Education does not pay a salary to the visiting professors they should be tenured faculty on a sabbatical or on holiday. An established academic co-operation to a professor at Heidelberg University of Education is expected from the applicant.

The German Academic Exchange Service supports the activities of internationally interested teachers and researchers in a variety of programmes, e.g. participation in academic conferences, guest lectureships, research stays and projects with international partners.

iDA - Internationale DAAD Akademie

The international DAAD Academy (iDA) offers teachers and academics a wide range of continuing education programmes, e.g. on topics such as "Teaching in English", "Conference contributions and presentations in English" or "Writing academic texts in English". Self-study materials are also made available.
