If you have realised that your chosen subject is not the right one for you after all, you can change your subject, your special educational specialisation or your specialisation in subject teaching.

Realised after the BeTa - didn't choose the right subject after all?

In order to make it easier for you to start your studies and to give you the opportunity to respond to additional information on the structure and content of the individual subjects of the teaching-related Bachelor's degree programmes, Heidelberg University of Teacher Education allows you to change subjects in the first month of the semester within the framework of admission restrictions .

However, before changing subject, we recommend that you first seek appropriate subject counselling. The best opportunity to do this is during the counselling days. In addition, the subject advisors will be happy to help you during regular consultation hours. If you have already obtained information, please contact us directly:

Students who would like to change their subject can download the corresponding application online and hand it in personally at the Student Service Centre Zi. 012A (Altbau) or send it by post or email.

Important to note:

When changing to the subject Art or Sport, proof of having passed the entrance examination/exemption is required. A letter of motivation must be submitted when changing to Music.

Entrance examination for the subjects Art and Sport

You can only change your subject or several subjects once in the teacher training programme for the entire degree course. Therefore, please inform yourself about your new choice of subject before submitting your application.
A change of subject is only possible within the first four semesters of the Bachelor's programme. The latest possible time for a change of subject is therefore within the change period during the third to fourth subject-related semester.

Important to note:

A change of specialisation is still possible after the fourth semester.

Deadline for the summer semester: by 15.01.
Deadline for the winter semester: by 15 July.

After a change of subject, please re-register for the next semester as usual.

It is also possible to change the specialisation in subject teaching once; however, this can only be done after successfully passing the module examination of the basic module in the corresponding subject teaching. A change of specialisation is also possible after the fourth semester.
In the teacher training-related Bachelor's degree programme in Special Education, a change of specialisation is equivalent to a change of subject. This also applies to a change of specialisation in German/Mathematics.

Special education students can only change their 1st special education specialisation due to admission restrictions if there is free capacity in the desired specialisation.

If you have received your study place as part of the selection procedure via the competency-based matching quota, you can only switch to another subject with the same matching quota or to a subject with a different competency-based matching quota.

Subject groups or subjects of the competence-orientated pass rates:

B.A. Education at primary level: art, music, sport, scientific and technical subject teaching with a focus on chemistry, physics or technology.
Subjects excluded from subject change:
- For capacity reasons, the university must exclude a change to certain subjects. No subjects are currently affected.
