The Institute of Psychology is concerned with psychological principles that are of central importance for teaching and learning processes, education and pedagogical interactions. Research and teaching focus on areas such as developmental psychology, diagnostics, intervention and counselling. The degree programme at the Institute of Psychology combines psychological expertise with practical skills. In addition, the Testothek offers the opportunity to borrow a wide range of test procedures and support materials.
At the Institute of Psychology, we focus our teaching and research on psychological principles and content that are important in the context of teaching and learning processes and education (especially in schools, early childhood and elementary education). This includes general psychological and developmental psychological principles, socio-psychological aspects of educational interaction as well as diagnostics (in particular performance measurement and assessment), intervention, counselling (for example in the case of learning, behavioural and developmental disorders) and evaluation.
In the self-image of psychology as a discipline, the methodological empirical foundation of psychological findings is particularly important. For this reason, we also teach fundamental aspects of research methodology. In addition to indispensable "classics" of psychological theories and approaches, current evidence-based psychological research findings are also addressed.
